THREE mallards that were looking for love may have found romance but now they face a new problem – the water in their pond is disappearing.
As previously reported in The Gazette, the desperate drakes, pictured, in Oakley Pond were in dire need of new partners to mate with or faced becoming extinct in the village.
Oakley and Deane Parish Council quickly responded to the situation and managed to find some single females from other villages in an attempt to repopulate the pond. But now the ducks face a different problem – the water in their pond is disappearing fast.
Parish clerk Ian Pryce said: “The water level has dropped alarmingly in the main pond at the junction of Oakley Lane and Rectory Road.
“I’m on the case, but it will take a while to get the required contractors in place to fix a leak, if there is one.”
