RESDIENTS of Basingstoke will have a chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at the work carried out at the Chineham Energy Recovery Facility, this Saturday.
The operators of the site in Whitmarsh Lane, Chineham, Veolia Environmental Services, will be holding a special “Wonder Open Day” on March 29, to show how the site works and how they turn waste into a resource.
At the site, heat energy is recovered from waste taken from households across North Hampshire and it is used to produce steam to generate electricity which is supplied to the National Grid.
During the open day, visitors can experience a behind-the-scenes tour of the facility, a visit to the control room and children can take part in a series of educational games. Facility manager at Veolia Environmental Services said: “We think this is a great opportunity for our neighbours and local residents to come and explore what happens at our site.
“We hope people will come to meet us and gain an inside view on how we are working behind the scenes on their behalf.”
To book your tour time at the open day, email HampshireEnquiries@veolia.co.uk or call 02035 673855.
