MORE than 80-tonnes of household waste has been the source of a large fire in the Chineham area.
Around 50 firefighters have been tackling the blaze at the recycling site just outside Basingstoke, off Whitmarsh Lane.
The fire was discovered just after 10pm last night (August 29) in the tipping hall at the site near Chineham.
Crews from Basingstoke and the surrounding areas have been using a digger, alongside other mechanical vehicles and equipment, to dig out the rubbish and extinguish the fire which has been burning through the night.
Currently there are around 15 firefighters still at the scene and they are expected to remain there for most of today working through the pile of rubbish.
No one has been hurt in the incident and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Servie say there is no impact on the public from the fire.
More details to follow.
