Full-time - Basingstoke Town 3 Thurrock 1

It's a winning start for Jason Bristow - but after a fine opening half-hour it was far from plain sailing towards the end.

See The Monday Gazette for a full report and all of the reaction from today's game.

90+3 min - Ogunbote is a bit lucky only to be booked for a two-footed lunge on halfway. A needless challenge.

90+1 min - McAuley and Thurrock's Stuart Thurgood are both booked after a spot of handbags.

89 min - McAuley drills a low shot well wide from outside the area.

83 min - Smart is booked after stopping taking a quick throw-in.

Thurrock goal - It had been coming and a goal arrives direct from a corner, Ahmed Deen's flag kick finding its way past a mass of bodies and in at the far post.

80 min - GOAL - Basingstoke Town 3 Thurrock 1 (Deen)

79 min - Sam-Yorke sees a strong penalty shout waved away, while only a decent tackle by Old prevents another clear chance at the other end.

77 min - That's another narrow escape for Town. Old gets caught under a long ball forward, giving I'Anson a clear run on goal. He lobs Bayes but the ball cannons back off the crossbar.

At the other end, Sam-Yorke puts a shot narrowly over when there were better options.

75 min - Daly shoots from 25 yards and the ball grazes the top of the bar on its way over. Town make their last change, replacing Lake with Jide Ogunbote.

71 min - Town replace Sills with Rob Gradwell, while Thurrock bring on Kyle Assante for Warren Goodhind.

70 min - Daly gifts the ball to Sam Cutler in a dangerous area and he smashes in a brilliant shot that leaves Bayes a spectator as it crashes off the underside of the bar and bounces to safety.

65 min - Sam-Yorke gets up well to meet McAuley's corner but heads over moving backwards to reach it.

62 min - Town make their first change, replacing Robert Rice with David Pratt and switching to a 4-2-3-1 formation.

61 min - Sills' nod down almost leads to a chance for Sam-Yorke - but he's crowded out in the area.

56 min - Sills meets Warner's corner but it's just too high for the striker, who is unable to redirect the ball on target.

52 min - Smart makes good ground down the right and smashes in an angled drive that zips just past the far post.

46 min - Thurrock make a double change before the start of the half, replacing Ben Bowditch and Lee Boylan with Luke I'Anson and Ben Hunt. Town get us back under way.

Half-time - Basingstoke Town 3 Thurrock 0

When Bristow dreamt about his first half in management last night I doubt it went much better than that. It's been comfortable since Town went two up and surely it's only a matter of how many after the break.

45 min - Daly wins the ball in a promising area but his shot is a poor one and trickles wide.

42 min - Town look in control now and Steven Old heads a corner over the crossbar.

Town goal - And it's a lovely flowing move. Sills' clever flick puts McAuley in down the middle and while his touch is heavy, Gillman's tackle serves only to play Sam-Yorke in. He takes a touch before unselfishly squaring for McAuley, who produces a brilliant volley on the stretch to add a third.

29 min - GOAL - Basingstoke Town 3 (McAuley) Thurrock 0

Town goal - Sam-Yorke gets in down the left side of the area and just beats Thurrock 'keeper David Hughes to the ball before being brought down. The 'keeper is shown a yellow card and referee Dean Treleaven points to the penalty spot, with Wes Daly sending Hughes the wrong way to double the lead.

27 min - GOAL - Basingstoke Town 2 (Daly pen) Thurrock 0

26 min - PENALTY TO BASINGSTOKE

24 min - Thurrock are within inches of levelling as Paul Terry's header from a corner hits the far post, with the rebound going just wide. The pressure continues and a shot is deflected narrowly wide as well.

Town goal - Delano Sam-Yorke does brilliantly down the right channel, bamboozling Gillman with quick feet before feeding Sills, who steals in to head home at the near post.

18 min - GOAL - Basingstoke Town 1 (Sills) Thurrock 0

12 min - It's all been a bit frantic so far but that's Town's best attack yet. Shaun McAuley and Warner link up down the right and Warner's low cross is just taken off Tim Sills' toe by Rob Gillman. Good defending.

5 min - Thurrock go close, with Town defending pretty poorly. David Knight reaches the ball on the goal-line and pulls it back beyond Ashley Bayes but Jay Gasson is fortunately on hand to clear.

1 min - Thurrock get the game under way and Town make a positive start, forcing an early corner. It is 3-5-2 for Town, with Smart and Matt Warner the wing-backs.

Team news - Bristow makes just one change to the starting line-up picked by Frank Gray last week. Giuseppe Sole has been sent back to Woking and Nathan Smart comes in. Could be three at the back, I'll keep you updated.
