The earliest known written record for the town of Odiham, which sits to the east of Basingstoke, appears in the Domesday Book of 1086. One of its most well-known landmarks is Odiham Castle.
Echoes of the Tudor period (1485-1603) remain to this day across Basingstoke. Manor houses and ruins in and around the town are evidence of this glorious and golden age in British history, which also saw great religious, political and cultural change with the Reformation.
Established in 1813 by Robert Tasker, Taskers of Andover Ltd. was an engineering firm based near Andover.
Basingstoke was fortunate during the World War II to suffer very little bomb damage in comparison to other Hampshire towns.
A TOWN with a flourishing history stretching back to the Mesolithic (c. 9000 BC - 4500 BC) Period, echoes of Basingstoke’s early roots are preserved to this day, both in knowledge and physical evidence.
