X MARKS the spot for the new Sainsbury’s depot, being built at Houndmills, Basingstoke.
Phase one began in October, to provide a new building for chilled storage on land purchased from fork-lift truck-maker Linde.
It is anticipated that this first phase of works will be completed by August 2013 and the new chilled storage building will be operating in time for Christmas 2013.
Sainsbury’s which has been operating in Basingstoke for nearly 50 years, said its multi-million pound investment in Basingstoke has help to secure the long-term future of more than 700 jobs.
The creation of the modern, purpose-built logistics centre will increase the capacity, and improve the efficiency, of Sainsbury’s distribution operations in the south.
