JUMBLE sale: Starting at 2pm in East Oakley Village Hall on Saturday. This week’s sale will be held by Friends of St John’s Church, who are raising funds to enable repairs to be carried out so that the building can be used by the community of Oakley.
In June, St John’s Church was deconsecrated, but has since been put on the borough council’s list of buildings of architectural or historical interest.
LIGHTING Up for Cancer: For the third year running, the gardens of 49 Hunters Close will be decorated for Christmas and open to the public to raise funds for Cancer Research.
The message and memory tree will be a feature again this year, where visitors can write a message on a bauble and put it on the tree.
The gardens will be open from 6.30pm to 9pm every night, from now until Wednesday, December 23.
There will be mince pies and mulled wine on closing night, and every night free sweets will be available for the children. Last year, the event raised more than £465.
OAKLEY-THEMED Christmas cards and gifts: Are available from the parish council. Choose from notelets, tea towels, coasters, postcards, bookmarks and the “100 Years of Oakley” book. To view these unusual gifts call 781541.
BUTTERCUPS Cafe: Will open at 9am instead of 10am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, December 8, 9 and 11, so that parents can wait in the warm and have a cup of tea before the Christmas concert takes place at the infant school.
