THE new Park Social café in War Memorial Park is the perfect place for a snack and a drink, with good food, a nice interior and an even nicer view.

Park Social café opened on Monday, October 14 in the John Arlott Pavillion in War Memorial Park and I visited with a colleague to check it out.

The new café is a fetching surprise, it boasts a modern interior with wooden flooring, stylish armchairs, archways and floor-to-ceiling windows which wouldn’t be out of place on a trendy millennials’ Pinterest board.

The café’s view isn’t something to complain about either, looking over War Memorial Park, with a view of the football pitch and the skate park, perfect for older customers to reminisce about their younger days of surfing the board.

The manager, Dan Fowkes is enthusiastic about the prospects of the new café- and rightly so. The café’s impressive menu offers sourdough pizzas, a full Costa Coffee menu and cakes guaranteed to make your mouth water.

I visited with a colleague for a morning snack and we were both delighted with the toasted sourdough sausage bap. The bread itself is worth it, so soft yet crunchy at the same time. The café seems affordable too, with a lunchtime deal of a hot toasted ciabatta sandwich, crisps and a drink for only £6.

The café is proudly serving Costa Coffee, so if you’re disappointed with the petrol station’s coffee machine, come on down for a chocolate fudge brownie frappe, a mango and passion fruit cooler or even a chai latte.

The café will be open early on Saturdays to serve the runners of the park run, however, if you’re keen on watching the run, it’s the best place to sit and watch as it looks out on the start and finish line. It has never been easier to eat cake while imagining you’re running a 5k.

I can imagine the café will be rife with customers come summertime, especially as they will have an outdoor seating area and a Mr Whippy machine. For an ice cream in a cone, it is only the bargain price of £2.50!  I will be definitely visiting, after all, it is the easiest way to get a Mr Whippy as you don’t have to chase the ice cream van down the street.

Park Social café is a stylish, modern café with small-town prices and service with a smile. Whether you’re taking the dog for a walk or hiding from your local running club, I’d recommend you drop by.
