BASINGSTOKE’S Odeon will be one of the only cinemas in the country to next week screen a live, interactive Q&A and debate with director Tom Shadyac.

The chat will follow a one-off screening of his new film I Am, a documentary of his pursuit of truth and mortal significance after a bike accident left Tom, who directed films including Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Nutty Professor and Bruce Almighty, with Post Concussion Syndrome.

Destabilised by the effects of the accident and having stared death in the face, Shadyac begins to question what is wrong with the world and what we can do about it.

I Am is a thought-provoking mix of interviews, animations and clips, featuring interviewees from the realms of science, philosophy and faith including Noam Chomsky and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, which instils a positive sense that change can be accomplished by acts on everyday individual levels.

The screening and live debate will take place at a central London venue on Thursday, January 24, and will be broadcast live into cinemas across Europe, including Basingstoke, with the opportunity for international audiences to interact in a live Twitter Q&A.

The panel, hosted by Oliver Burkeman from The Guardian and including MIND Ambassador Alistair Campbell, will join Tom to discuss what can and should be changed.

The screening begins at 7pm. Tickets are available online at odeon.co.uk.
