THE Cinema Exhibitors’ Association has today published the 2012 UK Cinema Barometer, revealing that 173 million tickets were sold last year.
The barometer covers box office, admission, top 10 film and market share as well as progress on industry topics such as the provision of subtitled screenings and the ongoing digitisation of UK cinemas.
2012 was another record breaking year for UK cinema, despite negative predictions about the impact of the Olympic Games.
Total admissions were up year on year and subtitled screenings were up 43% year on year to around 1,000 shows a week.
The total box office was £1,172,037,248, marking a fourth consecutive annual rise ending 4% up on 2011.
