A MUSICAL treat featuring a wealth of young Hampshire musicians is coming to Basingstoke next month.
The Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane has revamped its annual Festival of Music into a Music Extravaganza which boasts perfor-mances by the Hampshire County Youth Choir and the Hampshire Youth Jazz Orchestra at Aldworth Science College, in Western Way, South Ham, Basingstoke, on Saturday, December 5, from 7pm.
The award-winning youth choir, who went on a summer tour to Canada, took part in the 2009 School Proms at The Royal Albert Hall earlier this month. Their music covers a wide range to suit all tastes and includes solo pieces.
An appearance by mezzo soprano Lisa Faye, who performs a broad repertoire of songs on cruise liners, will be a highlight at the concert.
It is the first time the Hampshire Youth Jazz Orchestra has performed at the concert, bringing a new dimension and a great energy to the programme.
Kevin Vickers, president of the Basingstoke Deane Rotary Club, said: “This is an exciting development for us and I am delighted with the extra mile the team has gone to put on this concert. I believe the public will go home smiling and tapping their feet.”
All profits from the night will go to local Rotary charities. Advance tickets, costing £12, can be purchased from the Anvil Arts box office, on 01256 844244, or on the door.
