ANOTHER impressive bill of live music, including a duo all the way from Philadelphia, takes to the stage of Sanctuary on Friday, February 1.
1994 are a melodic/ mathy/ post hardcore duo from the US who are one of the loudest two piece outfits around. Join them as they plug one guitar into three amps, beat some drums and go crazy over each other’s instruments. They have five releases to their credit.
Support comes from Kilkovec, a three piece band from Basingstoke who boast a tinge of grunge, of rock and of punk. They’ll be playing some of their own cracking stuff.
Also in the line-up are Newbury’s Military Arcade, a three piece who have won the Best UK Live Act in the Exposure awards. In 2008, seeds had been planted for the band when Aaron's Burning Down Vegas split, and he and Mark, the band's first drummer, formed something new. Ashley jumped on board a year later after many line-up changes and name changes.
The band became Military Arcade when they decided they wanted to do something military based and give the band a unique look on stage.
They played their first show at The White Hart, Thatcham in 2011 and played through a set of covers with some original material thrown in. They knew that they had something from that moment onwards.
In February 2012, the band won their heat in Newbury Battle Of The Bands, storming ahead with votes against several other local bands. They quickly went into the studio to record their first release, the No Money EP.
Mark left, to be replaced by Tom Hutchings, a session drummer from Bucklebury, which has taken the band to a whole new level. They immediately began solid and consistent work on their debut album, Revolution Is Imminent. This is their first appearance at Sanctuary and is not to be missed.
The bill is completed by Fleet four piece Like Home, who stepped in at late notice at a December gig and made such a good impression that they deserved another chance to demonstrate their pop/punk hardcore with some glorious instrumentals mixed in. One to watch.
Doors open at 7pm and the show will end by 11pm. Sanctuary remains open until 3am. Admission costs £5 on the door
