NO NATION is currently hotter than Brazil when it comes to cinema and music.
And one of the hottest names in this explosive Brazilian new wave - Seu Jorge - comes to The Anvil for a night of inspired music, together with Radio 1 DJ and Brazilophile Gilles Peterson, on Friday, November 17, at 7.45pm.
Singer, composer and actor Seu Jorge (City of God and The Life Aquatic) has made a remarkable transition from resident of Rio's violent favelas to world pop star and a major player in Brazil's new music scene.
From his own songs to brilliant acoustic versions of David Bowie hits (heard on the best-selling soundtrack to The Life Aquatic), Jorge is a captivating performer.
The evening begins with a blistering set by DJ Gilles Peterson, renowned for championing a wide range of cutting-edge music for more than 20 years.
Brazilian music is full of passion, sentiment and joy. It is the result of a long, simmering mix of heritage from AmerIndian, Portuguese and African sources meeting global influences to create a magical, mystical music.
Yet it is the constant search for new forms within Brazil's diverse musical heritage that most captivates and influences musicians around the world.
Tickets for this concert are priced at £16.50, with under-16s and full-time students paying £11.
