SOUTHAMPTON’S Mayflower Theatre is looking for young people aged between 10 –18 years of age to make up the company of a production of Bugsy Malone, the culmination of the venue’s first ever two-week Summer Youth Project.
The Youth Project will be two-weeks of hard work by over 200 local young people alongside professionals from the industry to create a fully-fledged musical on the stage of the theatre on August 30-31.
Bugsy Malone is based on Alan Parker’s fantastic film. Join Fat Sam, who runs one of the most popular speakeasies in town, as he fights to stop his business rival Dandy Dan from closing his speakeasy down.
Enter baby-faced Bugsy Malone, a killer with the ladies and a definite asset to Fat Sam. Unfortunately, Bugsy has also caught the eye of Sam’s girlfriend Tallulah – though he’s set his designs on the showgirl Blousey Brown. A joy to watch and even better to be involved in – 1930’s style comes to The Mayflower with dance routines and lots of splurge!
Michael Ockwell, the venue’s chief executive, said: “It is important to stress that the young people do not need to have had any previous experience of appearing on stage. This is an opportunity to have fun, learn new skills and meet other young people interested in theatre. We also guarantee a fantastic show with lots of splurge!”
Auditions will take place on Sunday, April 7 at the theatre. If successful, project participation will cost £150 for the two weeks. You don’t have to have any stage experience, just lots of enthusiasm and be available for the entire period from August 18 to 31.
To register for an audition, go to mayflower.org.uk/BugsyMalone and download an application form. Completed applications need to be returned to the theatre by Friday, March 15.
