TWO people fled from a car before it caught on fire.
The Vauxhall Astra hit a Land Rover Discovery head on last night at 1.20am, on the A33 in Stratfield Turgis. Firefighters from Basingstoke were called to the scene, and extinguished the blaze within 20 minutes.
But crew manager Phil Phillips said there were concerns that someone was trapped inside the Astra. He said: “The occupants scrambled out but the Astra caught fire. It was well alight when we got there. There was some fear because the Land Rover driver thought there was a third person in the Astra.”
Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to look inside the car, and a police helicopter was called out to help. Thankfully no one was inside the car. The two people in the Astra were taken to hospital.
