A DOCTOR has pleaded not guilty to taking pictures of people in intimate situations at Basingstoke Leisure Park and in hospitals.

Dr Anush Babu appeared at Winchester Crown Court for a preliminary hearing.

The 38-year-old, of Mayflower Close, Chineham, was arrested in December 2011 and was charged by officers from Basingstoke CID in August 2012 with 17 offences.

These were five counts of making indecent images of children and 12 counts of voyeurism, which span a period from January 2011 to December 2011.

Wearing a grey suit, blue shirt and striped tie, Babu spoke only to confirm his name and pleaded not guilty to 11 of the counts, which relate to him allegedly recording people, including children, doing private acts with the intention of looking at the images for his own sexual gratification, knowing that they did not consent to the recording for that purpose.

Defending Babu, Fern Russell said her client was not ready to enter pleas for the remaining six counts.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place at various places including the Aquadrome, in Worting Road, Basingstoke, St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey, John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, at a Halfords store and at other hospitals.

Babu was told that he will face now trial in May, and he was released on unconditional bail.
