THE borough’s bin crews are reporting problems in Old Basing, Wildmoor, Overton, Oakley, Whitchurch and Laverstoke.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is saying that where the crews cannot complete their rounds they will be kept at the depot to see if snow stops at lunchtime, as is being predicted. It is hoped they can then go back out. Otherwise they will try to go back out tomorrow so householders are being advised to leave bins out if they have not been collected. Extra resources are being used where they can.
Sara Shepherd, communications and media manager at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council said: “Our operations teams were out from 9am and in the early hours gritting in our Basingstoke car parks and town centre areas to support the Hampshire County Council operation on the roads.
“Two ploughs are out now and areas around the town centre have been cleared and gritted. Work around the railway station to clear the thick snow on top of our earlier gritting, has started.
“A team is also out trying to clear car parks and local centres in Whitchurch, Overton and Kingsclere but they are experiencing some difficulties in areas with thick snow.”
