A YOUTH club for disabled youngsters in Basingstoke has found a new home.

Surrey-based charity Disability Challengers has set up its club at the Junction 6 building at Everest Community Academy, in Oxford Way, Popley.

The Basingstoke branch started 12 months ago at Oakridge Hall for All, in Forsythia Walk, Oakridge, before moving to the Spotlight Centre, in Shakespeare Road, Popley.

The new home has a kitchen, a lounge and dining room, and a hall for playing games.

Group leader Katie Cragg said: “Things did not work out at the Spotlight Centre, so we moved.

“The facilities here are brilliant – we have a kitchen so we can make cakes, because that’s one of the favourite things that our members like to do.

“It’s just a space where they can feel secure and we are able to go outside here as well.”

The club is for disabled youngsters aged 13 to 19 to socialise and develop though leisure activities.

Recent day trips have included Paultons Family Theme Park, and Calshot, near Southampton.

It already has 35 to 40 youngsters and 12 members of staff.

It is open between 10am and 4pm on Saturdays, and between 6.30pm and 8.30pm on Monday evenings.
