Sir.–I am writing in anticipation that a number of Gazette readers may be able to help one of Basingstoke’s oldest charities.
The Open Sight Basingstoke Club for blind and partially sighted people has been serving the area since the early 1960s.
The club meets at Kempshott Village Hall and is run by committed volunteers, including drivers, who collect members from their homes.
There are a significant number of visually impaired people in the area who are keen to join the club for which we need additional volunteer drivers.
If readers are able to offer a couple of hours every other Thursday afternoon, we would love to hear from them. All Open Sight volunteer drivers are given sighted guiding training, support and their mileage expenses.
For full details, please call the club’s transport organiser, Brian Sims, on 01256 323612.
–Terry Smith, Community Development and Support Manager, Open Sight.
