Sir.-Is Councillor Phil Heath, who is now saying "We need to take back control of what is happening" in Hatch Warren, the same councillor who last year vilified local residents who expressed fears that the plans he and his cronies pushed through would create just the sort of problems that have, in fact, been caused?

In the November issue of the Hatch Warren community newsletter, there is an article by our beat officer, Pc Niblock, in which he basically says there is little the police can do, and it's the fault of the parents, anyway, who should be controlling their kids.

Well, it's not my kids doing criminal damage, intimidation and theft; it's not the kids of the people who are suffering the effects of Cllr Heath's ill-considered construction who are doing it; and it's probably not the kids of hard-pressed police officers who are frustrated that instead of being able to thump the evil little scumbags, they have to act as social workers.

And in order to stop alleged "outsiders" from coming into Hatch Warren to cause problems, Cllr Heath wants to erect more "MUGAs" - when will these people ever learn?

Perhaps Cllr Heath might be magnanimous enough to admit he was wrong and the residents were right - but he's a politician, so that won't happen, will it?

Sir.-Having read Cllr Heath's comments concerning bricks being thrown at buses, I would like to commend him on his remarkable political flexibility.

He was instrumental in pushing through the multi-use games area (MUGA) despite objections from residents who live much closer to it than himself.

The fear of it acting as a magnet for anti-social behaviour was a specific objection that he airily dismissed at the time.

However, he is now citing the MUGA as being a cause for the recent anti-social behaviour - not only on buses but also private vehicles, and it has included assault, against myself and others. What a surprise!

Cllr Heath invited the public to call him "at any time" with issues concerning anti-social behaviour. I would exhort his electorate to do so in order to highlight the extent of the trouble resulting from the opening of the MUGA.

Unfortunately, a gang of 30-plus youths is now terrorising Hatch Warren (not only centred around the MUGA) and I would like to ask Cllr Heath what the council's proposals are to counter this?
