WHILE nobody in Hampshire died as a result of a work-related accident in the last year, more people suffered major injuries at work in the county than anywhere else in the South East.
Statistics released by the Health and Safety Executive have revealed that 733 work-related major injury incidents occurred across Hampshire in the last year.
However, not a single person died as a result of any incident, while every other county in the South East suffered at least one fatality.
Across the South East, there were 23 fatal incidents, 3,467 reported major injuries and 13,168 injuries that required the victims to have more than three days off work.
Tony Hetherington, a principal inspector with the Health and Safety Executive, said: "With simple precautions, we could greatly reduce the misery and expense revealed by these figures.
"This is the message we are trying to get across through campaigns to raise awareness and through enforcement action where necessary.
"Simple measures and risk assessments can help prevent workplace injuries - and employers will see the benefit of this with a fit, healthy workforce and a reduction in absence through injury and work-related illness."
