AS WE move towards the end of the year, it is clear that age discrimination will be one of the hottest topics that employers, small and large, will face in 2007.
That is the verdict of Liz Yonge, operations director for financial recruitment consultancy group CMA Financial Recruitment.
With offices in Basingstoke, Southampton, Havant and Bournemouth, the company has already received an enormous number of enquiries about the implications of the Employment Equity (Age) Regulations 2006.
In response, CMA staff immediately launched a series of seminars on the new legislation and its implications for business.
Liz said: "It has become clear that many companies are still concerned about compliance with the law and about the changes they need to make to existing policies to fall in line.
"In ignoring the new statutory requirements, employers may risk significant liability. They need to take action now and make any necessary changes to avoid potential claims in the future.
"Having been through a thorough review process ourselves, we wanted to develop an informal and relaxed programme of seminars on the subject, which provide specialist but practical support and guidance on the law.
"Providing an opportunity for people to share ideas, listen to advice and discuss any issues relating to the new regulations has proved invaluable."
She added: "CMA is a market leader with an impressive client base ranging from large blue chip organisations to smaller owner-managed businesses in commerce and a cross-section of accountancy practices.
"Ensuring as many of our clients benefit from our knowledge, not just our recruitment offering, is a key goal for us as it further strengthens our relationships with local businesses.
"These seminars certainly contribute to that goal and we have already received some positive feedback that is really encouraging. It is a clear indicator that we are doing a good job for our clients."
The programme has included a buffet-style breakfast networking session and an inspiring presentation by Peter Stevens, partner and head of the employment unit for Thomas Eggar Solicitors.
