IT’S AN official world record – the Hampshire Music Hub has set a new benchmark for the largest ukulele ensemble.
The record number of 2,370 ukulele players strumming together was set at a spectacular ukulele playing event at Southampton FC’s St Mary’s football stadium.
Players of all ages took part, helping to beat the previous record of 2,134 participants in a ukulele ensemble in Japan in 2012.
One of the participants at the record-breaking event was Hampshire County Council chairman Councillor Colin Davidovitz.
On hearing the news that the record had been officially ratified, Cllr Davidovitz said: “I would really like to congratulate all the hundreds of young people, who with their parents, teachers and friends took part at this world record-breaking event.
“It would not have happened without the leadership, help and support of Hampshire County Council’s highly regarded Music Service, led by its head, Jill Larner.
Head of Hampshire Music Service Jill added: “I am immensely grateful to everyone who took part.
“It was a day to remember and I would like to congratulate all those who helped to make this possible and made our vision to set a new world record a reality.”
