A SERIES of fitness sessions aimed at help people living with depression will start in the New Year.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and the Basingstoke Sports Trust will be running the Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds programme for people referred by their GP or any other health professional.
The 12-week course will start on Monday, January 5, from 10.30am to 11.30am.
It is aimed at people experiencing mild to moderate depression, anxiety and stress at a reduced cost of £3 per session. Partici-pants will also receive a voucher for a free swim during each week of the programme.
The sessions, which are suitable for all ages and levels of fitness, will focus on physical activity and include information on the benefits that good food and nutrition has on mental wellbeing.
Councillor Cathy Osselton, Cabinet member for partnerships, said: “I am very happy that GPs are able to refer patients on to these sessions, and hope that people who need it take up this opportunity which will provide exercise in a supportive and relaxed environment.”
