STAFF from a financial regulator took part in a charity walk in memory of one of the team’s son.
The team from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) embarked on a 16 mile journey from Henry Beaufort School in Harestock, Winchester, to St. Mary Bourne Village Hall, in St. Mary Bourne.
The reason this route was chosen was because it was the route that 16-year-old Macaully ‘Mac’ Sutcliffe was on when he was involved in a collision in October 2016.
The teenager died after his motorcycle collided with a white Mercedes van at the junction of Harroway and Bloswood Lane in Whitchurch as he was on his way to school.
Mac’s father, Richard Sutcliffe, who works for FCA, wanted to do the walk to honour his son as well as raise money for Children in Need.
Mr Sutcliffe said: “On October 14, 2016, our world changed when our 16-year-old son, Mac, was killed in a motorcycle accident on his way to school.
“We are so grateful for the support of all our friends and colleagues who gave up their time to walk Miles for Mac, and for all the various money raising activities for this special charity.
“It was a truly humbling experience to see everyone taking part and when we saw various people and different stages of the walk everyone seemed to be in really high spirits.”
Staff from the FCA set off on the trek on Saturday, 16 September taking in the North Hampshire country side along the way.
As part of the Miles for Mac fundraiser, the financial regular has so far raised more than £9,000 for Children in Need.
The FCA plans to continue to support the charity. To donate or support the FCA’s charity drive in Mac’s memory, visit their fundraising page.
