A CARE home has been given a solid inspection rating from the healthcare watchdog.
Glebelands, in Wallis Road, was inspected on October 26 2017, by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) with its inspectors giving the facility a ‘good’ rating in all five inspection categories.
The report published on January 5 rated the home, which provides accommodation for up to four adults with a learning disability, ‘good’ in the areas of safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and leadership.
The report said: “People living at Glebelands were cared for by staff who understood their needs. Staff had undertaken a programme of training in induction which helped to give them the skills to work with people with complex needs.”
Whilst describing whether the service was effective, the report stated staff received suitable training specific to the needs of people and they were also commended on using a variety of methods to communicate with people who had limited verbal communication.
The service was described as caring. The report said: “Staff understood people’s needs and were able to use their knowledge to help the residents remain calm when they became anxious or upset”. A relative of a resident told inspectors: “The staff keep us updated, consult us as a family and keep us involved in important decisions about care.”
The service was also found to be responsive, with detailed documentation on people’s likes, life history, behaviour and communication needs, while people’s needs were reviewed regularly and the service has a good policy to deal with complaints.
Residents’ relatives and social workers said that the registered manager and home manager were competent and professional in their roles and there was a “clear management structure” in the home. The families also said that staff were caring and dedicated in their roles.
A spokesperson from Glebelands said: “The good rating is fair enough, it is a good report but we have high standards so we are just going to have to tighten our belts and do better in the future.”
