RESIDENTS remain in the dark with a police presence still in place after a man was attacked in a residential Basingstoke street last night (Saturday).
Police were called to Queen’s Road at 9.11pm last night after reports of an assault.
One man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent.
A police presence remains at the scene, with part of Queen’s Road blocked.
However many residents say they are still none the wiser as to what happened. The Gazette has spoke to a number of neighbours with many having missed the incident altogether when it took place last night.
“I heard absolutely nothing,” said one person, “I had my headphones in so I missed it.”
Police were conducting door to door enquiries last night, but one lady noted: “I couldn’t help them at all, I was in the back room when it happened. It was quite late.”
Another added: “The police have been here all night and that’s all I’ve seen.”
And another said: “I saw there were some cars there last night with lights but that’s it.”
Officers and police car remain at the scene this morning (Sunday) with a police cordon in place in the middle of Queen’s Road.
Anyone trying to access Worting Road will have to take a detour via George Street and Alexandra Road.
