Basingstoke businessman and his team, Ocean5, have broken the world record for the fastest five member team to cross the Atlantic.
Kevin Gaskell, Chairman of iCaas, a General Data Protection Regualtion firm based in Chineham, rowed 3,000 miles across the Atlantic smashing the previous record by eight hours.
The team crossed the finish line in 35 days, 19 hours and 50 minutes completing the 2019 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.
Kevin said it was the simple things he missed most whilst being at sea, such as “a private space to pick up the newspaper and chill.”
He added: “Above all else, I’m looking forward to a hot shower and a comfy bed.”
Moments after the group landed in the English Harbour, teammate Sam Coxon proposed to his girlfriend, Natasha Saxton.
The challenge started on December 12 last year in which 35 teams made the journey from San Sebastian in the Canary Islands to Nelson’s Dockyard in Antigua.
Ocean5 competed in the event to help combat plastic pollution in the oceans by raising money for the Plastic Soup Foundation International.
