Kind-hearted villages have transformed a bus stop into a tiny hub for donations for NHS workers.

The shelter has become a place where residents in Kingsclere can donate toiletries for staff and patients at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

It comes after the hospital issued an appeal asking for items such as hand wash, shower gel and moisturiser for those having to stay overnight at work amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

And under the leadership of resident Helen Aymes, villagers in Kingslcere answered the hospital's call.

They managed to utilise a bus shelter in the village centre to act as a mini store for people to drop off donations and collect them.

Claire Blunden said: "The community has come together not only to support local vulnerable residents but also to support those working on the front line at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

"Local councillor, Clare Kinnear has always been there promoting this community support too. As well as supporting locals by creating a team of volunteers, Helen then sent out a request to support staff and patients at Basingstoke Hospital by asking for donations of toiletry items such as hand wash, shampoo, shower gels, and moisturisers.

"The community came together and were proud to be able to support this cause, gathering many items in just a couple of days. We are certainly supporting our frontline workers and appreciate everything they do for us."

Anyone wishing to make a donation can simply leave items at the shelter while workers from the NHS are welcome to collect products as needed.
