TWO borough businesses are looking to sell alcohol to the public as part of their delivery and collection offerings.
Applications have been submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council asking for premises licences to sell alcohol, from JJ Food Service and the Watership Down Inn.
JJ’s, a food and drink wholesaler in Kingsclere Road, Basingstoke, wants to sell alcohol as part of its retail offering from Monday to Friday, 6am to 9pm, and on Saturday and Sunday between 8am and 9pm.
The company delivers groceries including brands to the general public and businesses from 11 UK branches, including Newcastle and Leeds.
A consultation on JJ’s application to sell alcohol will end on June 2.
The Watership Down Inn, near Whitchurch, launched a dine at home service on May 13, and is hoping to offer alcohol as part of this.
It has asked the council to vary its current premises licence so it is able to sell alcohol to the public to be consumed elsewhere.
The pub’s new takeaway service will offer customers a selection of tapas dishes to collect and take home to enjoy, with options including battered smoked haddock with caper and lemon grass mayonnaise, Italian marinated peppers with Manchego cheese and pitta, and shell-on tiger prawns with garlic and chilli oil.
A consultation on its application to change its licence will end on May 27.
