Two paper and cardboard recycling banks at Stratton Park are being removed after they were destroyed by a fire.

The banks at the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council owned bring site in Pack Lane have been burnt out and can no longer be used.

The fire occurred during the early hours of Friday, June 26 and the incident has been reported to the police. Further work is taking place to determine if the paper and cardboard banks at this site can be replaced.

Cabinet member for the environment and enforcement Cllr Hayley Eachus said: “It is extremely disappointing these recycling banks have been destroyed by a fire.

"This is mindless vandalism to facilities used by others to benefit the environment.

"These banks cost several thousands of pounds and are not easily replaced. We will do what we can to provide a temporary solution for this site and would like to remind residents paper and flattened cardboard can be put in your green bin for collection at kerbside.”
