A TEENAGER from Basingstoke who let her teacher cut her hair for charity has so far raised over £1000 and says she would “definitely donate it again.”

Bex Dilley, a Year 10 student at Aldworth School, chopped off more than 13 inches of her hair last week in aid of the Little Princess Trust, a charity that makes wigs for children who have lost their own hair due to cancer and other illnesses.

“It feels really weird having short hair now as I’ve had long hair for so long, but I’m getting more and more used to it,” she said.

“I’m so grateful to have so many people supporting me doing the cut, it was amazing. Over £1000 has been raised so far - it’s crazy!

“I’m so thankful to all the people who have donated so far. Some people I know and some are total strangers. It makes me so humble to know that people can be so generous. It is such a great charity. They do such great things for children and young adults.

“If I grow my hair long again I would definitely donate it again.”

The brave 14-year-old not only decided to cut her hair - but asked her tutor teacher to be the one to do it.

Mr Butcher previously expressed his mixed emotions of pride and nerves ahead of the big event, but says it was “amazing” to play a part in the successful fundraiser.

“The responsibility of preventing the ends of Bex's hair looking like a frayed piece rope was pressurising,” he said.

“I am overwhelmed by the support. It is a wonderful feeling when the Aldworth School community comes together. The school has a unique and special feeling about it when events like this take place because staff, students and parents unite and demonstrate a type of togetherness that is difficult to place into words but leaves everyone with a firm feeling of affiliation.

“A massive well done to Bex for putting this all together. Aldworth School is proud of her and as her tutor, I am exceptionally proud of her.”

Bex has decided to leave her fundraising page open until October 31.
