Fundraising campaigns have been set up to support a popular man injured in a serious car crash on New Year's Eve.

Andy Soper, 47, was struck by a silver Nissan on Swan Street in Kingsclere on December 31.

He was trapped between two cars and was rushed to hospital where both legs were amputated below the knee.

Friends and family have launched fundraising drives to help the father and well-known gamekeeper in his recovery.

Already, £12,600 has been raised to help Andy and his partner Alison.

Jaime Christian, who set up a GoFundMe page, said the accident means Andy may not be able to continue his work as a gamekeeper. 

They wrote: "I am an old friend of Andy's. We are doing this to help with the many house alterations that will be needed once Andy gets home after his double leg amputation.

"Life will be extremely different for the whole family and Andy may no longer be able to work as a gamekeeper. 

"it's going to be a very long road but this will go some way to making life easier for the whole family to get on with their lives."

Jaime added: "Both Andy and his lovely family are always there to help and support others - now they need our support.

"By giving what you can and showing your support for them you will be helping to take away one bit of worry allowing them to focus on the most important thing of getting Andy back to his lovely partner and daughter."

Friend George Brown has set up another appeal, focused on adapting a 4x4 so Andy is able to drive again. 

He has raised £2,200 out of a £40,000 target.

George said: "Andy Soper sadly lost his father on December 23. He went to pay his respects to him on New Year's Eve.

"Sadly whilst on the roadside, standing by his car, Andy was hit by another car. He has had great hospital care and raised from an induced coma three days ago.

"Sadly due to the injuries sustained, Andy woke up to find his left leg amputated below the knee. Unfortunately since then he has lost his right leg too due to the injuries.

"Andy is a fantastic character and taking it all exceptionally well. He is an ambassador of the countryside and very much an outdoor man.

"I am hoping to raise funds to enable him to enjoy his main passion to the greatest extent possible.

"He was seen daily on local farms in his Land Rover. It would be a wonderful thing if you might donate towards an adapted 4x4 for him to keep his independence and to allow Andy to keep part of his old life going.

"He is a value to the countryside and local community, I'm hoping to give him some of that back."
