New photographs show how a fire door stopped a blaze from spreading in Old Basing last night.
Basingstoke Fire Station has described the door as a 'lifesaver' after it managed to block the potentially deadly inferno from spreading.
Firefighters rushed to Peake Close just before 11pm last night when a garage caught alight.
It took three crews around two hours to quell the blaze, which left the garage's contents and a car completely destroyed.
Luckily no one was hurt, with a guinea pig rescued and taken to safety.
Now the fire service has shared further pictures to demonstrate the importance of a fire door.
Fire doors have a dual role – to slow the spread of the flames by acting as a barrier to other rooms, and also to provide a means of escape if necessary for any people still in the building.
A spokesman for Basingstoke Fire Staton said: "Last night's incident shows the importance of a good fire door.
"This door was the between the garage and the house and is required under building regs to be a fire door.
"It did its job perfectly."
