PEOPLE in Basingstoke are being encouraged to mark Holocaust Memorial Day today (January 27).
The Mayor of Basingstoke, Cllr Diane Taylor, is leading the borough in online tributes throughout the day, via her social media platforms.
In a tweet, she wrote: "Although we're unable to stand side by side, we must remember the hundreds of thousands of lives that were destroyed as a result of Nazi persecution from 1933-1945."

This year, the Holocaust Memorial Trust has launched a Light The Darkness campaign, which encourages households across the UK to light a candle in their window at 8pm, to "remember those who were murdered for who they were and stand against prejudice and hatred today".
The organisation will be streaming its first fully digital ceremony from 7-8pm.
