COMPLAINTS made about the deputy mayor of Basingstoke are still being investigated, more than a month after they were made.
Two formal complaints were made about Cllr Onnalee Cubitt in December, after she compared making changes to the council offices to Year Zero, which is widely recognised as referring to the killing of two million people in the Cambodian genocide.
Her comment sparked deputy leader of the council Cllr Simon Bound to publicly state he will not be supporting her appointment as mayor this year because of her “track record of being offensive and not giving a damn who she upsets”.
The borough council said it is following its Arrangements for Dealing with Complaints Against Councillors procedure, after receiving two complaints about Cllr Cubitt’s comments.
Sara Shepherd, the council’s communications and marketing manager said the complaints are still under investigation and there are no updates.
Cllr Cubitt, who represents the Basing ward, was previously investigated after having a formal complaint made against her when she liked a Tweet by Donald Trump in which he referred to Covid-19 as “a very bad ‘gift’ from China”.
The complaint, which accused her of racism, was dismissed by the council because it happened in her “private life”.
