WHILST in the middle of a national lock down there is not much to do except binge watch our favourite TV programmes and scroll through funny videos on social media.
So we are taking a trip down memory lane with some local TV gold.
This iconic episode of 90s teatime favourite ‘Noel's House Party’ was filmed here in Basingstoke back in 1994.
The BBC show saw Dame Barbara Windsor getting pranked, thinking she has been invited to open the first Round Basingstoke Tour.
The spoof tour of the town was chosen because in those days Basingstoke was seen as a town with only roundabouts and car parks.
The prank began with a whole host of things going wrong from champagne bottles that won’t smash to cutting the grand opening ribbon with a pen knife.
But the fun and games did not stop there, as Barbara goes around Basingstoke you can see her stifling giggles at the boring joke facts the ‘tour operator’ is sharing.
The star’s patients begin to wear thin when the tour runs two hours over with constant watch checking and a pained face.
But the best moment of it all is the final few minutes when the bus meets a dramatic end and the prank is revealed.
We won’t spoil it too much but we can say it is worth the watch.
Thankfully the prank warmed Barbara to our town as just months after the episode aired she became the first person to star in the Basingstoke panto.
