ARMED police have reportedly intercepted a car on Canadian Way in Rooksdown this afternoon (Monday, February 22).
James John, 49, who lives on Canadian Way, saw the incident unfold right outside his house.
“I was on the computer on a call at the time. I heard a screech of tyres. Then lots of police cars arrived, cutting off the white car. There were lots of police carrying guns, it was quite exciting."
James has shared a video of the incident that shows armed police attending the incident.
James added: “There were so many police I joked they must all be here. They were doing their job and I respect that, I feel safe knowing they’re around.
“There was so much shouting, the dog was going nuts. I think I heard the police helicopter too.
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I am born and bred in the area, I’m from Popley, and never in my life have I seen anything like that. And I hope to never see it again.”
James said he wanted to make it clear that the police weren’t called to a property, the car seemed to be “passing through” when it was cut off.
“Usually there’s load of cars parked around here but at that time of day it was quieter, people were at work.”
James said the whole thing took around half an hour.
“It will be interesting to know what it was. I think there was one man driving the car. My son saw him and said he looked young. They took him away.
“They [the police] were so good and direct with him. I was scared and I had nothing to do with it, I can’t imagine how he felt.”
Aother witness told the Gazette: "[Police] pulled the guy out and assume arrested him."
