A MAN from Popley has been arrested after being ‘stung’ by a paedophile hunting group yesterday afternoon.
Police confirmed they had arrested a 60-year-old male in connection with grooming offences on Saturday, February 27.
The London-based vigilante group live streamed their confrontation of the man on Facebook, who they alleged had been speaking in a sexual manner to a ‘decoy’ he thought was a 14-year-old female.
They asked people to “stay away from the house and family” who they say “had no idea what he was doing”.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We can confirm that Basingstoke officers have arrested a 60-year-old man from Basingstoke in connection with grooming offences.
“The man, who was arrested yesterday (27 February), has been released from custody but remains under investigation as enquiries continue.”
