THE most dangerous roads across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have been revealed in an interactive online map.

Created by two road safety experts, CrashMap highlights the location of every collision on the roads in a given period.

The detailed tool shows you not only the severity of the crash – slight, serious or fatal – but also when it took place, the number of vehicles involved and the number of casualties reported.

The data used is taken directly from official government statistics, which is based on records submitted to them by the police.

It comes as no surprise that the two cities in the county, Portsmouth and Southampton, saw the most incidents between 2015 and 2019.

Hovering the map over Portsmouth, it reveals 5052 incidents took place with Southampton just behind having recorded slightly less crashes at 5045.

Winchester, meanwhile, amassed around 1003 incidents between 2015 and 2019.

Heading north, there were around 1254 incidents in Basingstoke over the same period with Andover recording 821 crashes.

The Isle of Wight has seen it’s fair share of crashes over the years with the island recording 4339 incidents.

The map can also be filtered to show just fatal crashes - revealing 24 took place on the Isle of Wight, 96 in Basingstoke, 81 in Winchester, 110 in Southampton, 60 in Andover and 106 in Portsmouth between 2015 and 2019.

Unsurprisingly some of the deadliest roads in the county include the major motorways, the M3 and M27, some of the fast paced A-roads have also proved particularly dangerous including the A303 and A272.

The Avenue in Southampton has a high number of fatalities for such a short stretch of road with three deaths recorded.

Whilst stretch of road from Basingstoke Road along the A33 to the A30 has seen five fatalities over the five-year period.
