A GROUP of young people from Basingstoke are among those who have recently completed a 12-week training programme with the fire service in conjunction with The Prince's Trust.
The free 12-week course is available for 16-25-year-olds who are unemployed and not in education or training.
The course, which Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) has been running for 15 years, offers young people the chance to build confidence through a residential week away, team challenges, work experience placement, and community project.
It also gives them a chance to break down personal barriers and overcome obstacles, so they become better prepared for the world of work.
Posting on Twitter, HIWFRS wrote: "Huge congratulations to @HantsIOW_fire Prince’s Trust teams Basingstoke 30 & Southampton 54 for completing the 12 week programme!
"Their success was celebrated with a virtual ceremony."
A new group will begin the programme at both Basingstoke and Southampton on May 10.
