BASINGSTOKE picnickers are being urged to dispose of their waste properly after a dog fell ill eating discarded sultanas.
The unlucky hound became unwell after munching the fruit left in the Black Dam area, a popular spot for dog walkers.
A spokesman for Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council said: "Many foods can be fatal to animals if ingested, please dispose of your waste correctly and do not leave discarded food lying around."
Grapes, raisins, sultanas and currants can be toxic to animals. Cooking or baking does not reduce the risk of poisoning.
According to advice on the council's website, poisoning may initially result in vomiting and diarrhoea and subsequently in kidney failure (which may occur a few days after the initial effects).
It comes after earlier this month dog owners were warned after a sick prankster had placed a sausage roll covered in spikes at Stratton Park in Kempshott.
