FESTIVAL PLACE is in discussions with a number of firms regarding a takeover of Debenhams.

But bosses have remained quiet over any potential frontrunners for the three-storey retail space which dominates the Basingstoke shopping centre.

Cllr Ken Rhatigan, leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, said: “I know Neil Churchill and the team at Festival Place are negotiating with people, not only for their benefit but for the benefit of the town.”

He added: “We [the authority] will do everything we can to make [a replacement for Debenhams] happen.”
