A TEENAGER has been given a prison sentence after he was found carrying a knife in a public place.
Abdijalil Jaabir, from Westminster Road, Birmingham, was found in possession of a lock knife in Roman Road, Basingstoke on February 7 this year.
At a hearing at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, the 18-year-old was given a six-month prison sentence, which was suspended for 18 months, after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
The defendant was also asked to comply with supervision requirements for 18 months, which includes taking part in a 26-day rehabilitation programme and carrying out 100 hours of unpaid work within the next year.
Jaabir was also ordered to pay a £95 victim surcharge.
The knife he had in his possession will be forfeited and destroyed.
