A MEMBER of the Basingstoke Street Gang will appear in court again after allegedly failing to comply with his tagged curfew order.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was caught socialising with another member of the group in Winklebury on March 30, following a gang injunction made on March 19.
The injunction, requested by Hampshire Constabulary due to concerns surrounding criminal activity from the group, prevented the gang of ten young people and five adults from any contact with one another.
The pair denied the breach accusation, but were found guilty at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Friday, April 23.
As it was a first breach for both teenagers, District Judge Tim Pattinson issued them with a four-week electronically tagged curfew between 8pm and 4am, adding: “If there is a breach of that curfew or a further breach of the injunction then I will have detainment, locking you up, very much in my mind."
Now, one of the teenagers has allegedly failed to comply with the curfew, by not making himself available for installation of the monitoring equipment on three separate occasions on May 11, 12 and 13.
He was due to appear again at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court today (Friday, June 4), but failed to attend.
Having failed to make contact with her client, Harriet Parker, defending, requested the case be adjourned for one week until Friday, June 11.
Penelope Skertchly, prosecuting on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary, agreed to this, but added: “The gang injunction matters from the orders have been reserved for the judge to deal with.”
The magistrates agreed to consult the judge and confirm he is happy for the issue to be considered by them when the teenager appears next on June 11.
