MYSTERY surrounds why a stream running through a Basingstoke park suddenly turned white.
Residents reported to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council that the stream running through Eastrop Park had turned white on Wednesday.
The following day, it had returned to normal, but when the Gazette went to visit a woman was there carrying out checks of the water.
She told concerned passers-by that there were no health and safety issues regarding the water but was unable to shed any light as to why it had turned white.
Members of the public have been speculating on social media as to why the stream turned white, with suggestions including that a milk-float crashed or that it had been done on purpose in support of England reaching the Euro finals.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has yet to respond to a request for further information.
The Environment Agency has also been asked for information.
