URGENT action is needed before more children are injured outside the school gates.

This is the message from the community after a girl, 10, and a parent were mowed down outside Castle Hill Primary School on Winklebury Way on Monday.

The child was taken to hospital while the adult received treatment from the paramedics. Hampshire Constabulary confirmed it was investigating but no arrests have been made at this time.

Cllr Sean Dillow (Winklebury and Manydown, Conservative) is now calling on Hampshire County Council to “prioritise funding the school crossing patrol position”, saying “it is blatantly obvious that there is an urgent need for increased safety measures for the children”.

He said the incident happened just days after he had a meeting with the school’s headteacher surrounding safety measures.
