AS lockdown restrictions ease, nightclubs are set to open again.
What better time to take our boogie down memory lane to look at Basingstoke’s nightclubs of yesteryear?
We have picked out seven photos from the 90s featuring Basingstoke's infamous nightclub Martine's.
Check out our gallery above to walk down the memoryline of hitting nightclubs in Basingstoke and also to see how the nightlife was in the town 20-30 years ago.
The photos were shared by the nightclub ex-employee DJ Leroy Wilson who reignited Martine's flame last year when he hosted a one-off reunion event at Plush Lounge Bar on Wote Street.
As these brilliant photographs from the nineties show, the town's after-hours venue of choice was swamped with revellers on Friday and Saturday nights.
According to Leroy, Martine’s was a ‘typical, local club' in the town centre that saw the likes of Tony Blackburn and Grange Hill stars regularly turn out for a dance and a drink at its peak during the 1990s.
Clubbers would regularly queue in droves for a chance to get into the hotspot at the weekends.
Double denim, big hair and queues outside the door were all familiar scenes when Martine's was open.
Hearts were broken when the venue closed its doors in 2000, but its memories have stayed on in the hearts of former workers.
