AFTER more than a year of restrictions on events, the buzz of a secondary school prom is a rare sight.
But at one of the first schools in Basingstoke to hold an event since restrictions eased, Year 11 students were delighted to get dressed up and celebrate a very challenging end to their school careers.
The Cranbourne School leavers prom was held in the school fields on Thursday, July 22.
Students suited up or donned their finest frocks and enjoyed a glorious evening.
Tania Collins was crowned Prom Queen, while the Prom King crown was presented to Ayomide Akinbote.
It comes after the school's big bash was sadly postponed, when police were unable to confirm that the event would not incur a fine.
Headteacher Jane Aplin was forced to rearrange the event just four days before it was due to take place earlier this month, ahead of 'Freedom Day'.
Speaking at the time, she said: "We found the advice from the government a little bit ambiguous so in the end I phoned the police and they were kind of puzzled as well. They couldn’t guarantee to me that we wouldn’t get fined. So, I went back to the student prom committee and we took a joint decision on it and I think it’s the right one."
