IT MAY be twelve months later than planned, and the students may have flown the nest onto the next stage of their lives, but there was a big reunion for Brighton Hill Community School’s Class of 2020 last week as they finally held their prom.
Cancelled from last year because of the Covid pandemic, headteacher Chris Edwards vowed that nothing would stop him and his team from giving the students their big day.
Held at Audley’s Wood last Thursday, the year group were able to hold their prom.
Mr Edwards said: “When the class of 2020 were told with two days notice that their school career was about to end abruptly, they were understandably devastated.
“We wanted to do all we could to honour their rites of passage and we promised them back in March 2020 that they would have a prom, no matter how long it would take.
“Their inspirational head of year Pete Beeching and I were worried when we set the date for July 2021 that we wouldn’t get much interest but we were delighted to be proven wrong.
“Over 80 per cent of the year group bought tickets and we were able to give them the proper send-off they deserved!”
